Sign-up to Host a National Media Training House Party!

On Thursday, January 17th, progressive activists will gather in house parties all over the country to learn how we can take back our media. These unique house parties will cover the fundamentals of getting the media to cover progressive issues and events in your community.

We have everything you need for the two-hour event, including a training video to start the evening, instructions for joining a live webcast with a national media expert, and details on running a real-life practice scenario with your guests. All the trainings will take place from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, regardless of what time zone you live in, on the evening of Thursday, January 17th.

But in order for this to work, we need individuals like you to host a media training house party.

Step One: Start by signing up!

You can begin by signing-up below. After you fill out your information, we'll send you a DVD of the training video. Over the next few weeks, you'll get confirmation emails from attendees as they sign-up to join your party, as well as emails from us to walk you through the details of being a host.

Note: Since the training is taking place this Thursday, we no longer have time to mail a DVD to you. If you are still interested in hosting a house party training, you will need to be able to download the training video and display it on your computer during the evening. It is 100MB large and available in both Quicktime and Windows Media Player.

To make sure you understand all the details of being a host, it's important to take a few minutes and read through the detailed description of the event and what it means to host a training.

Step 3: Host Responsibilities

What you need to be a host for a Media Impact Training:

  • ROOM: A comfortable space that can fit between 5 and 15 people
  • TV & DVD PLAYER: A working television with a DVD player (note: you can also download and play an online version of the training video on your computer, but we recommend watching the DVD if possible)
  • COMPUTER OR TELEPHONE: A computer with a reliable internet connection, external speakers and monitor OR a speaker phone. This is how you'll participate in the media expert interview - you can either connect through an online webcast or a conference call
  • PRINTER: Access to a printer and/or a copier in order to distribute the guest materials for the training (4-5 pages per person)

I have (or can get access to) the things I need to host this event. *

What we need you to do in order to be a host:

First and foremost, by signing up to be a host, you are agreeing to have members of your community come to your house for a training. We will limit the number of participants that sign up according to the maximum attendance you indicated. The reservation systems work on a first come, first serve basis. You will get an email notification every time someone signs up for your event that will include their name, address, and contact information. You are welcome to contact them prior to the training.

You are welcome to invite as many of your own friends, family, co-workers, and acquaintances as you like; however, they need to register through the website.

Additionally, we have provided all the information you need on our website. During the course of the training, your responsibility will be to:

  • Take attendance at your event
  • Print the guest packets for your attendees
  • Play the DVD or training video
  • Set up the live webcast or conference call with a speaker phone
  • Help facilitate the interactive practice with other attendees
  • Fill out a post-training evaluation
  • Help ensure that your participants get the most out of the experience

I agree to the hosting ground rules for this event. *

Wait! Before you hit submit, make sure you have filled in all the required fields! If any of them are left blank, you'll have to start over...so go back and double-check. Then, after you submit your information, you'll receive an automatic email confirming your application.
